I've added a new section to my site: ComiCodex, a tracker for Western print and webcomics. It's basically like MangaCodex, only with a different focus. They're separate collections because I'm trying to keep the size of each collection down and I already have over 500 things in MangaCodex already. Anyway, right now it's mostly webcomics, with a few print things I read on paper or online.

Yesterday I added a new section to my site: Seaglass, my poetry notebook. I've been using this for nearly a year now and it's stocked with over a thousand poems already. However, there isn't really a filter (quality or otherwise), so the better ones are mixed in with a bunch of blander stuff. I'll probably do occasional blog posts rounding up the better ones (in my opinion) when I get my blog set up. In the meantime, there's everything!

I also fixed a typo in the last feed entry, so it should now display correctly (luckily it was in the last paragraph, so most of it showed fine already).

Here's what's changed on my site!

Mini-review collections

I've made fixes and tweaks to the filters in my review collections (Kittenboxd and PICO:3). The title search now matches accented letters with non-accented ones (e.g. searching for “sirene” will return results with “sirène” and vice versa), and all the text inputs (title, release year, review year) now wait till you stop typing for half a second before running the filter. It just means less computation on your end!

Kittenboxd

Just one new review this week: Santa Sangre (❤️). Find it by sorting by “review (latest first)”.

PICO:3

No new reviews, but I changed some of the negative-rated reviews because I felt maybe I was being too harsh on people. A few ratings got bumped up to neutral and a few reviews got mostly or entirely rewritten (find them by sorting by “review (latest first)”), among other smaller tweaks. Some of them stayed very negative.

What next?

I'm feeling pretty good about the sections of my site that are up right now (aside from the deeply-incomplete Plasma…), so the next thing I'll get up is my blog! That'll at least give me a better place than this feed to talk about plans for and thoughts about the site. My goal's to get that online by the end of February. I've got nearly two dozen old blog posts converted to markdown, so it'll have a bunch of stuff ready to read even on day 1!

Here's what's changed on my site!

Mini-review collections

My collections of mini-reviews (Kittenboxd and PICO:3) have some new features! Now you can search by title (actually an old feature I brought back) and filter by release year and review year (actually you can do it by millennium, century, or decade by entering just 1, 2, or 3 digits). That took up a lot more space, so I collapsed the controls in a disclosure widget. I might add debounce to the filter controls later (basically a small delay before the script actually filters the reviews, so the list won't instantly update with every single change you make), but for now, it works well enough.

I also simplified the ratings from two thumbs to one thumb (a range of +2 to -2 down to a range of +1 to -1). It just makes things simpler for me because it's way less likely I'll look back later and start fiddling with ratings just because e.g. I gave a new review a +1 but a week or two ago I gave something I felt is about as good as that a rating of 0… basically now it's just love/hate/everything in between.

Kittenboxd

New film/TV/video reviews:

Get Lamp

Killdozer

A Colour Box (❤️)

Free Radicals (❤️)

Burst City (❤️)

Peyote Queen (❤️)

Find them by sorting by “review (latest first)”.

I also removed the Ghibli reviews—specifically, Spirited Away, The Cat Returns, Giant God Warrior Appears in Tokyo, and the music video for On Your Mark by Chage and Aska. I'm gonna put these in their own collection with their own style at some point, just like the Lupin III stuff and Bond films.
