Sinners (2025)

Suffers a bit from how the period piece character drama winds down when the horror begins. The most visually and thematically strongest parts were the songs. Everything else feels a bit hasty, and it's hard to care about many of the characters when their screentime's so short. A lot of them feel more like chess pieces in an over-broad allegorical space. I'd probably like this more if it had an extra hour (maybe splitting it into a 3-episode mini-series instead of a single film). I've probably gotta think about this some more, though. I do think there's maybe something to the food angle here, blandifying USAmerican “melting pot” politics vs diverse cuisine that's true to both its origins and its present-day conditions.
