Get Lamp (non-interactive version) (2010)

An unfocused documentary on the history of text adventures and interactive fiction. Spends a lotta time wandering between interview answers by luminaries overstating the uniqueness of their chosen medium (something I'm too familiar with from analog game discourse). While it's endearing to see a bunch of people speak on something they love, there are flashes of more purposeful subjects that end up going nowhere: text adventures for blind people; Mary Ann Buckles' doctoral thesis and the immediate and enduring academic responses; the impact of a central sclerotic creative competition on a small artistic field; the real-life inspirations of the earliest text adventures; hypertext as art.
