Black Lagoon (2006)
Two fantasies; one eats the other. The first is that you, a normal guy* with a normal job, could survive and even thrive in the glamour-grime of the international criminal underworld. The second, dominant one has you witness lots of fights involving 2000s-era cute, cool, and/or sexy psychopathic women (or, in one case, creepy psychopathic twins) with dark pasts. AFAIK the manga takes this shift even further and kinda becomes a John Wick-esque crime fantasy but with laid-back comedy vibes instead of operatic tragedy. Anyway, the anime's at its most interesting up to the iconic cigarette kiss, but by the second season it's just The Rock and Revy Super Show, as Dutch gets only scattered focus and Benny's a non-entity outside the end of the Greenback Jane arc. Unrelated but annoying: The series has a serious case of “as you know” disorder, where all the hardened criminals state basic facts about their underworld for the benefit of us, the viewers.
