Tales from the Crypt (1972)

Man, what happened between this Amicus anthology and The Vault of Horror? This one's got actual cinematography, political bite, and a sense of colour and style.

…And All Through the House has a killer start and keeps the weird tension high throughout; Reflection of Death takes a while to get going but has a fun, if obvious twist; Poetic Justice is kinda mundane but really shows off the mundane inhumanity of the upper class and the tragic effects on those around them; Wish You Were Here is kinda dull but has great pulpy special effects at the end; and Blind Alleys is a sick little fable about resistance to managerial corruption in the health service that almost could've been written today.

It's no towering achievement of cinema and the frame story's pretty weak, but it's a lot better than Vault of Horror.
