Evil Does Not Exist (2023)

Man chops one wood thinks he's Paul Bunyan. Anyway, beautiful subtle characterisation, sense of colour, banding of light and dark, blue vs orange colour-coding, and an uncompromising soundtrack that deftly avoids cliche. Excellent skewering of the capitalist ignorance of relations and deferral of consequences in both the physical and the social, without romanticising the rural periphery as some timeless capsule of natural innocence and grace. Brilliantly pointless economy of dialogue in the business scenes, where so much is said and so little actually communicated due to the wilful ignorance of whichever side has more power. All-around banger for understated camerawork sickos.
