Exhuma (2024)
Really on point. I love the rituals! The protagonists' dynamics are a complex blend of business, craft, religion, duty, and guarded friendship that develops over the story. The locations are wonderfully sinister, complemented well by sound and score; most feel cursed by spirits or capital or both. The scenarios have the characters believably feeling both competent and underdogs. The mystery's a real puzzlebox—it's satisfying to see the characters take it apart and to figure things out yourself. This film's not revolutionary, but it's really good. Side note: Interesting to see a modern take on the fascist weaponisation of the occult that's seated in Asian supernatural horror instead of the magickal Ahnenerbe/Nazi zombie stories I've seen before.
