Glassy Ocean (1998)

Tamura Shigeru's second work with his signature gentle characterisation and idiosyncratic fantasy. This short plays with scale, memory, and the contradiction of mundanity in beautiful ways. Each moment is a world, and each life a moment. I like the passage of the whale as an illustration of the passage of time in the absence of a strong driving plot. The blending of 2D and 3D is often awkward in motion, but not in a way that lessens the work.
