Lupin III: Bye Bye Lady Liberty (1989)

The Lupin TV specials have established such a strong tradition of mediocrity that I really wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. Despite some off moments, it's legit good—packed with unusual shots, playful gags, and offbeat or flat-out weird scenes, starting with Lupin's househusbandry and culminating in a psychedelic montage of programming a mainframe supercomputer via hypnotic revelation. It's even kinda-sorta got that Lupin political sauce, as the sclerotic, vampiric old order is superseded by Info-Age tech-billionaire manchildren, then laid low by libertine agents of chaos. However, it suffers from a muddled and rushed finale and, as usual, sidelining members of the main cast. Not an all-timer, still worth it.
