Lupin III: Green vs Red (2008)
Every long-running franchise can have one (1) self-indulgent meta entry where all the different versions exist in the same timeline, as a treat. This one's maybe too clever for its own good and 100% requires you know Lupin inside out, but it's a hell of a ride. Really needs to be taken as a kind of amalgamated thesis rather than a single, coherent plot—there's a bunch of threads that go nowhere, like the cyberpunk stuff about brainjacking and PMCs, that still feed into the themes of identity, transition, and inheritance. Where does all the chaos lead? “Good artists imitate, great artists steal.” To build a new, better identity you have to unashamedly delve into the culture and seize what you want from the collectively-owned consciousness with both hairy hands.
