Lupin III: The Columbus Files (1999)

The Mystery of Mamo with the budget and sensibilities of a Lupin TV special. It lacks the majesty, politics, and pathos of its forebear and the writers made the critical unforced error of robbing Fujiko of her character and competence for most of the runtime, and also really drawing out Jigen's surprise homophobia. Still, it's (unevenly) impressive, with clever shots (like the pendulum reflection with a more-present Lupin and more-transient Fujiko), understated gags (like Jigen's backpack full of bullets), and fun dynamics (sometimes Lupin vs Nazaroff, his dark mirror Part I throwback). It's less than the sum of its parts, but some of those parts are good. Oh and there's orgone.
