Lupin III: The Pursuit of Harimao's Treasure (1995)
Grudging respect to Dezaki Osamu for finally making me appreciate his animation style. Everything else is off, though. The script severely under-uses Goemon outside the cold open and Fujiko and Zenigata are mostly reduced to running jokes. The villains are little better as Nazis led by a gay (or trans?) crossdressing misogynist whose name is a pun on “hermaphrodite”, who’s constantly framed as a creep less because he's a Nazi and more because he's gay. He has zero staying power, which really doesn’t help the stilted pacing. The local character Diana is decent, though—quick-witted, competent, and annoyingly aristocratic but not in a garish way. Oh, and Lupin is back to being horny and slapstick in this one, which is neither here nor there.
