Lupin III: Voyage to Danger (1993)

A worse version of the later Walther P38 in almost every way, which is saying something. Superficial 90s grit? Check. Plot kicked off by Lupin's concern for Zenigata, who then spends most of the film doing nothing? Check. Lupin casually joining a secretive criminal group with an impregnable island fortress? Check. Morally-murky personal entanglement ending in bathos? Check. Background focus on nuclear weapons and power that doesn't really go anywhere? Check. God, in any decent Lupin story, stealing a nuclear sub from a military base would be an explosive cold open or the carefully-planned climax. It's an insane escalation, but here it feels cheap and mundane, like the rest of this film.
