Three parts. Labyrinth Labyrinthos is a vivid and startling portrayal of a cat-fascinated child and her nervous cat. Reminded me a lot of the works of Bruno Schulz—a vivid magical-realist depiction of the familiar turned strange in a child's hometown. Running Man is a sci-fi death-sport tale with impeccable lighting—a brilliantly ghoulish depiction of the elevation, reduction, and self-destruction of human life in a cyberpunk city. Construction Cancellation Order follows a zaibatsu functionary trying to shut down a dilapidated megastructure defended by intelligent robots—bureaucracy made manifest—where creation and destruction are one and the same; it's all stark days, neon nights, spotlit ruins, and twitchy robots set to a manic soundtrack. All three are excellent in their own ways—lively, bitter, and surreal.
