Sinners (2025)

Feels a bit hollow somehow… It doesn't help that the period piece character drama stops dead when the horror begins. Oh well, fun times. The most visually and thematically strongest parts were the songs. Everything else feels a bit hasty, and it's hard to care about many of the characters when their screentime's so short. A lot of them feel more like chess pieces in an over-broad allegorical space. I've probably gotta think about this some more, though. I do think there's maybe something to the food angle here, blandifying USAmerican “melting pot” politics vs diverse cuisine that's true to both its origins and its present-day (you might say “material”) conditions.
