Everything in this game that furthers the ghastly slow-burn apocalypse revelation is great; everything that distracts from it detracts from it. Unfortunately, there's a lotta distraction here. Winding-but-linear levels full of ill-defined enemy encounters make the world feel more like a set of guided tours textured via combat mechanics. This kind of texturing can be really good, but the combat here's too shallow for how much of the game you spend in it. Retreat, melee, repeat. They really should've had fewer, harder encounters, which'd give them more flexibility with the space. As-is, once you've played a few derelict stations you can beat them all. The game does have its strong points, though—I really like the obtuse storytelling, beautiful and dismal setpieces, and alienating atmosphere (including the janky translation). In particular, it's inspired that you only catch broken bits of major conversations while you rush around keeping your train going and your passengers alive.
