- quit after The Eel Deal because I saw the writing on the wall
Ough… They brought back the dodgy hitboxes and periodic-hazard-spam and so on and they cut the fun level-select map where you can make this goofass sprint across the archipelago to save his damsel in distress. I quit after The Eel Deal (level 10) because I felt they were slowly ramping back up to the perfectionism of Crash Bandicoot. I think my time with Crash is over… I'm happy to watch my friends play, but the series is just no fun for me.
Some other points: there are way fewer level themes and both the themes and individual levels are samier and less interesting than in the first game; the ice physics are abominable (hee hoo); and unlike in Crash 1, where you can get an all-crates run on most levels straight away, many all-crates runs in Crash 2 are locked behind first finding obscure collectables in later levels, sometimes much later.
