Exactly my shit and very TTRPG-like for a certain type of TTRPG, and otherwise reminded me a bit of The Tartar Steppe/The Stronghold by Dino Buzzati in the attitude towards the goal and the absurd ways people deal with their time in the tower. It kinda wore me down, which feels like the point. Once I got to floor 50 I decided I'd stop the next time I hit a checkpoint, whether up or down, and eventually fell back to the checkpoint on 45 and quit. It's definitely one of the best games PICO-8 has to offer---an excellent, concise, and funny depiction of the search for personal meaning in the face of a Sisyphean struggle to reach an “objective” social goal defined by very large and small numbers that embody futility itself.
